How do I know if my pet has fleas? How do I know if my pet has fleas?Signs that your pet may have fleas can include scratching and biting at the skin. You may also discover hard specks (dry blood, flea feces and/or larvae) on your pet's skin at the base of his or her coat.Fleas can be hard to detect on your pet and often you won't see them until you're amid a major infestation. Here's how to find them early: Put your pet on a white surface, preferably white paper, and comb her. If she has fleas, tiny black specks will fall on the paper and be visible. A flea comb can help you find and remove fleas. A little bit of oil or petroleum joy on the comb will help it become more effective.
Natural treatments for pets with fleas. Some of the chemicals in some flea and tick treatments are quite controversial. Some flea and tick products were recalled in the past after it was found that some pets actually died after being treated with them. If you check the labels on many vet-recommended and/or store bought flea and tick products, you will see that many labels on common flea and tick treatments warn humans not to touch and/or inhale the product. If store bought flea treatments have such serious warnings on the labels, why would you put them on your pet? Safe and natural treatments to protect your pet from fleas and ticks: - Natural, organic sprays... made from neem, a plant in the near east, these natural sprays kill and repel fleas, ticks and other insects from your pet while they are natural and safe for your family. - Garlic supplements. Garlic is a powerful health supplement on its own and offers your pet many health benefits, but it is also very helpful in repelling fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. - Natural herbal shampoos... which again contain neem, a safe repellent of fleas and ticks. We also carry shampoos that carry other natural repellents such as cedar oil and geranium oil. - Diatomaceous earth... made from fossils, this natural powder kills fleas, ticks and other insects that come in contact with it by piercing their little bug bodies and dehydrating them. (Use only human grade non-calcified diatomaceous earth in your home and pets.) - Homeopathic remedies... homeopathic remedies are most often made from plants and offer safe, effective treatment for many conditions, including fleas and ticks and the effects from them. They are affordable, easy to use, natural and typically safe. - Essential Oils. There are at least two essential oils that can be used to make an effective anti-flea spritzer. Talk to a qualified essential oil specialist for the recipe and instructions.
