Tips for helping your dog lose weight.
Tips for helping your overweight dog lose weight:
2- Ration food. Be sure you're feeding your pet a healthy amount of food. Don’t allow grazing. 3- Increase exercise. Walking with your dog, for example, is good for both of you and what a fun way to spend time together. 4- To help your dog feel good while he loses weight, give treats that help satisfy your pet, such as raw bones, pieces of protein or low-cal treats. 5- Don't give in to doggie-manipulation. Some dogs are experts at getting you to give them more, even if it's not good for them. Try maybe a good back scratch instead? 6- Feed your dog in smaller meals more frequently throughout the day instead of one or two large meals. 7- If you feed your dog dry food, adding water to the food is good for his health and a good way to help him feel more satisfied while trying to help him lose weight. 8- Avoid feeding table scraps, which are often not healthy for your furry friends.
Be sure to consult your dog's veterinarian concerning his weight. Your vet can tell you if your dog has a weight problem or not and do tests to see if there is any health condition that may be contributing to a weight problem, if there is one. He or she can also advise you on feeding and discuss options for treating canine obesity. Be aware that weight management dog foods often available through veterinarians may contain corn, a source of sugary carbohydrates, as the first ingredient.
